This past summer, it felt like every celebrity and street-style princess was embracing the transparent clothing trend. Now, as winter creeps around the corner, Dua Lipa has revived last season’s hottest fad for the colder-weather months.
The “Dance the Night” singer made a head-turning appearance in New York City on Tuesday night, looking glamorously sophisticated in a black flapper-inspired dress featuring glittering fringe arranged in chevron stripes and see-through mesh fabric. Even so, she was far from being scantily clad for the dropping temperatures. Instead, Lipa layered her statement dress with a statement coat, staying warm in a gigantic black fur. Other elements of her monochromatic look included a pair of black leather knee-high boots with a pointed toe and a black leather clutch.
Her shaggy fur coat wasn’t the only major outerwear moment she had that day.
Earlier, the Grammy winner made another all-black appearance in the city. She was spotted in Manhattan wearing a long baggy leather coat, which she wore over a black T-shirt tucked into black leather pants with thick white paneling. To complete the edgy outfit, she added black leather pointed-toe boots, a black Hermès Birkin bag, and black oval sunglasses.
“I like having one piece that makes a whole outfit and then you can wear everything else that’s quite simple,” Lipa told Harper’s Bazaar during a 2017 interview. “I’ve always loved dressing up. I like it when things look like you’ve just thrown them on and sometimes the things you really do just throw on look the best. I’ve always been inspired by the ’90s, and I like wearing baggy trousers, and blazers with slipdresses and thigh-high boots or leather jackets, and just a mixture of all those together.”
