This year’s fashion fads have run the gamut from the classically wearable to the more… unexpected (see: the no pants trend). One trend that crosses this bridge? Head-to-toe leather.

Perennially cool and rich in “It girl” factor, black leather apparel is everywhere. Although leather outerwear and boots peak each chilly season, the age-old textile is experiencing a resurgence in ready-to-wear as well. It’s been all over street style; and almost overnight, Kylie Jenner‘s new venture Khy brought about even more interest in it with its first capsule consisting entirely of faux-leather tops, bottoms, dresses and jackets — all made in collaboration with Namilia.

It’s not often that a trend resonates with my personal, edgier taste, but 2023 has been my year, sartorially speaking. And although I’m thankful that my “retired rockstar” aesthetic is currently in style, I can certainly understand that a leather-heavy look may sound intimidating to others. So, we’ve rounded up several ways to dip your toes into the surprisingly versatile material.

Leather jackets, such as puffers, trenches or blazers, are straightforward segues into the look — so are leather versions of wardrobe staples like tailored trousers or button-down shirts, which ideal anchoring pieces to mix and match with other textures. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, a leather mini, midi or maxi dress makes for great holiday party attire.
