It’s an exciting thing to get an autograph from your all time favorite celebrity., and many have turned getting autographs into a full time career.
However, not all celebrities love signing them, including Bill Hader, who just recently opened up about the experience that turned him away from signing autographs.
Just Jared has lined up a handful of other celebs who have done the same and stopped signing autographs.
William Shatner
Even if you ask, William Shatner is not signing one for you.
“If I’m out and about with family or waiting for a plane and I do it for one [person], an instant line [of] 50 forms,” he told fans who were talking about his policy online. “So if I say no to No. 1 or No. 21 it’s the same—I’m a jerk. So to save time the answer is no. There’s a time and place for everything and conventions are that place.”
There is only one time he will sign one for you – at conventions.
Bruce Campbell
Bruce Campbell isn’t one for autographs either. However, he’s more about experiences.
“I often get people sending 3 x 5 index cards for me to sign, which means people are just collecting them,” he noted. “I will often do conventions so I can meet the people. I respect them and want to intermingle with them. I think that’s the best format to do autographs.”
Bruce added, “I don’t like the impersonal side of celebrity. Overall I hope people will understand. People are putting people in the public eye on pedestals which just isn’t right.”
Cameron Diaz
Cameron Diaz has a simple rule for autographs and why she says no.
“If one person asks, then a crowd will.”
Steve Martin
Steve Martin is over signing autographs so much that instead, he hands out business cards.
“This certifies that you have had a personal encounter with me and you found me warm, polite, intelligent, and funny,” the card reads.
Tobey Maguire
Tobey Maguire will sign some autographs, but not all of them.
“[If I] get out of my car to go eat at a restaurant, people are standing there who sell autographs or get my autograph. I’m just not interested in signing those autographs,” he shared. “I mean, if a little kid wants an autograph or someone who’s really a fan or if I’m working, I’m at an event, I’ll sign some autographs.”
“But if I’m living my personal life and people who want to make some money off of my signature, I’m just…I don’t really take any time for that,” Tobey clarified.
